Much Different

"Heh." she smirked. "Usually I would say that you have low expectations, but.." she sighed. "We ARE in R&R..what else is there to do?" she said, laying back down.

Maigo looked over at the human.

"Hey, Reks." she mumbled.

He looked at her, curious now. "Yes Maigo?"

She hesitated for a bit, but she had already got his attention so she might as well ask.

"What was all that mumbling about your mother about, earlier..?" she asked.

"Oh" he whispered as he looked down. "I... I never try to sleep because when I do.." He clenched his hand tightly. "I see... I see the day she died... I see everything that happend over and over again..."

It's a good thing I don't sleep, then.. she thought.

Maigo looked up at the ceiling with her hands behind her head.

"I'm guessing it had something to do with the war..?" she said.

"No..." he sighed, his voice slightly trembling. "It was just mindless slaughter." He glared at the floor now. "They only did it for blood shed and they're own damned amusement, watching as they made me drink my own mothers blood to see if I was one of them."

Maigo winced a bit and pretty much didn't care at all about what happened to Reks, but she couldn't help but feel a little sympathy towards him.

She was silent for a few more seconds before asking with a flat voice, "'Them?'", even though she had a thought of what "them" was, she didn't like it.

Vance sat up from his torn up mattress in the corner. "Well it's good to see that your alive." He stood up and walked towards the door. "We can't survive without food, so I'll see what I can get. If I'm not back in say 30 minutes then expect the worst." With that, he walked out and headed down a side street towards a large urban area.

"Vampires" He muttered to Maigo as he watched Vance leave outside. "Maigo... tell me, what happened to your family."

Vance stuck his head back in the door."Admittedly I'm kinda curious too, if you don't mind me listening in."

Maigo closed her eyes and didn't say anything for a minute. She crossed her legs.

"You know the story." she muttered. "Most, if not all Humans, don't get along well with ..'mythical'... creatures. It's simple." she stopped. "The year 2010 came...the war.." she said, her voice growing softer and weaker. "..we hated Humans more than anything else on the planet. Such a hatred was so strong it was near impossible to be quelled." again, she stopped and looked at Reks with piercing eyes. "That's why my parents wanted to eliminate them, but then that would mean going out in the madness. Well, they did." she said as she once again looked at the ceiling, her voice still flat. "Of course...I had no combat experience so they had to keep me safe somehow, and to tell you the truth, when I was younger ------- I wanted Humans and 'creatures' like me to get along..peacefully. So much for that." she continued, her voice turning stone cold. "That rapier..is very special to me." she added. "Well, I had to escape, naturally, from New York. I looked back from where I was running from and there were my parents.." she again stared at Reks with the same piercing eyes filled with that uncontrollable rage. "..laying on the ground in several piec-...." she breathed, not being able to finish the sentence. "...with several humans standing around them...then I made a promise that I dare not break.."

Though I've come dangerously close to breaking it already. she thought.

"I see.." he whispered as he looked away, it was hard to say anything to her. He felt guilt written on him self but also he felt they got what they deserved. Life for life, blood for blood, is what most say. Could he say the same now? When the girl next to him felt everything he felt? She felt such a hatred for his kind, there were few things to do now. He slowly stood up and walked away into the middle of the room.
"I should leave now..." He looked at her. "You made a promise to eliminate every human you see correct?" He took a few steps to the door.
"I should not be in your way then.... Farewell, Maigo."

No words came to her head to say. She only looked over at Reks as he stepped towards the door.

"Where are you going?" she asked.

He stopped. "Where I cannot bother you, after all, having a human during a fight is a burden is it not?"

Vance still stood in the doorway, watching the scene unfold. "Hey don't worry about leaving. All 3 of us have been through a lot together, so it should be ok for you to stay with us, right Maigo?" He looked at her with anticipation.

Maigo got up off the couch and stood up, looking at Vance's anticipated look and Reks, who was about to leave.

"Y-yeah....." she murmured.

He sighed. "It is not wise for me to be here." He looked at Maigo. " I am human, my blood can be smelled by all Vampires and Werewolves so they can track our location." He tapped his head then.
"I have a sense which I can tell if anything not human is around so I can take care of myself for awhile, so if your worrying about me its quite nice of you but I'm fine."

"Whatever!" she exclaimed as she threw both arms up in the air in frustration. "I'm not gonna decide whether he gets to stay or not." she said, crossing her arms.

"Hey calm down! I was just asking your opinion on the matter. Reks, if that's your decision then that's your decision. Do what you want." Vance stepped out of the way of the door.

He tilted his hat down as Maigo yelled. "I will... leave. If you are in any trouble just yell my name." And he walked out the door into the shadow's.

Maigo walked back over to the couch, arms still crossed, and sat back down. She crossed her legs again and had her head facing towards the wall, eyes closed, as she let out a quiet disgruntled sigh.

"I'm gonna stay 'n here." she said.

"Alright then. I'll be back." He went out into the night and ran down some alleys till he arrived at a shopping center. He searched around inside, careful not to alert anything of his presence, and was able to acquire some food. He then set off for the house.

Maigo got off the couch after spending a few minutes trying to cool herself down. She placed her arms back by her side as she walked over by the door, looking outside.

Yeah, Vance is fine. she thought as she walked back to the middle of the room, pacing back and forth awaiting his return.

Vance started to approach the house, then noticed a couple of werewolves about 150 yards behind him. They were heading in another direction, but he made a mental note to cover his scent next time. He turned around, walked in a few circles around a few blocks, and then covered his scent when he finally approached the house. "I'll have to remember that next time I go out..."

Maigo walked back over to the door, looking around outside and spotted Vance.

"Nice. You made it back in one piece." she said.
