The Return

"Hey now." she said looking towards the boy with a straight face. "He may not be a Vampire, but he's a friend too, he's not going to hurt you either." she said, once again smiling while putting a hand on his shoulder. "Trust me on that, alright?" she nodded at the boy. The boy merely stared at Vance for a few moments with an unsure look on his face before looking back at Maigo. "Remember, I'll protect you if something happens. Promise." she finished while looking at the boy once again with compassionate eyes. The boy slightly nodded his head once but didn't move an inch.

"Wow its pretty rare to see you smile that much." He laughed.

"Well.." she said, looking at the boy. "He's just so cute.." she said as the boy worked up a somewhat disgusted expression on his face at the word "cute". Maigo laughed. "And he has no one to look after him.." she added. "It's kind of sad."

"Ya..." Those words brought up a few memories, bad ones. He grimaced at the thought of them and then quickly regained his composure. "Well I do have some bread left over that's still edible." He pulled a half loaf of bread out of his pack and handed it to Maigo. "You two can have whats left, I'm not hungry at the moment." He walked out of the room and back to the front door.

At that moment Rek's walked in to see Vance walk back from his parents room."Whats going on?" He asked.

Maigo took the bread and looked at Vance as he exited the room. That was...odd... she thought as a more serious expression took over her smile. "Huh?" she muttered as she felt a tug on her shoulder. She looked back behind her to see the boy tugging on her shoulder and looking at the bread. "Ah..well..you've probably seen bread before." she chuckled, the smile returning. Maigo handed the boy the bread. "Have as much as you like, I'm not that hungry myself."


The boy slowly took the bread and started nibbling at it.

"I was just checking up on Maigo; she turned in for the night, wasn't feeling too good. She just needs some rest and she'll probably be fine." Vance shifted a little so he was slightly in Reks' way.

"Really?" He asked a bit concerned. "Let me check on her then Vance." He took a few steps forward.

"Whoa I wouldn't do that, she looked PRETTY tired. I wouldn't exactly suggest going and waking her up." Vance stepped back a couple of paces.

"Whats the matter?" he advanced. "Is she alright Vance?" He kept walking without any hint of stopping.

Vance tried to stop Reks. "Its nothing just a headache, rest would be the best thing for her." He stood directly in front of the door.

He looked at Vance more seriously now. "Your hiding something, Vance let me inside of my parents room."

Maigo sat on the bed, looking at the boy with her hands on her lap as she heard voices...Vance and Reks' voices, apparently. They were talking outside the door. Oh boy..

She quickly got off the bed and knelt down next to the boy, who for once was actually smiling a little at her. She smiled back. "You remember the last person that came in here right?" she asked. The boy nodded. "Yes, well..another person might come in here, too. He also won't hurt you..." she paused. If he does I'll.. she stopped in mid-thought. "Anyway..he wears a hat and some blackish clothing...so if you see him, don't be afraid, alright? Remember...I'll protect you." she reminded him, as she leaned against the wall that was next to the door.

The boy continued nibbling on the bread.

Vance stood his ground. In a louder voice (hoping that Maigo would hear it) he said "I'm not hiding anything Reks!"

Maigo sighed. He doesn't have to make it this complicated... she thought.

"Stay in here, I'll be right back alright?" she said, winking at the boy as she opened the door and pushed through Vance. "H-hey, Reks!"

Vance stepped out of the way. "Ya, see Reks? She's fine."

He looked at Vance and Maigo curiously. "You just said she was trying to sleep and yet here she stands wide awake" He tried to look inside the room. "What are you two hiding?"

Maigo sighed and took a glance at Vance that would hopefully tell him atleast the word "No". She looked at Reks, crossed her arms and said sternly, "Do you promise to be CALM, COOL, COLLECTED, and CONTROLLABLE if we let you inside the room?"

Vance glanced at Maigo, giving her an "I tried at least" look. "Ya seriously, just keep cool about it and don't lose your head."

He sighed and also crossed his arms. "...Fine"

Maigo was ready to summon her rapier at any time, but walked into the room then stood rather closely by the young Vampire.

He walked in to see the young vampire in the room, anger went across his face but he strained it. "Why... did you bring him in here" He attempted to say calmly

Maigo saw it as she looked at Reks with burning fire in her own eyes. The boy walked behind Maigo, still holding a piece of the left over bread.

"Vance and I found him sleeping under a rocker outside. It was my idea to bring him in." her eyes narrowed, letting Reks know that if he dare attack the child she would show no mercy. "He had no one to look after him...so we brought him in." she explained, in a calm voice, trying to not scare the child any further. "He won't hurt you, I assure you." she turned her head and looked down at the child. "Remember, you can't hurt the man, alright?" she said in a gentle voice, fixing her expression to a more comfortable one. Then she looked back at Reks, again looking at him with the fire in her eyes.

He sighed again, putting his hand onto his face shaking his head. "Fine... Follow me into the next room" he said walking into the hall and opening the door across from the room.
