The Return

Something about his past, eh? ..he probably doesn't want to talk about it. she thought.

"Well the way I see it is that you were in the room slumped against the wall. I was yelling your name but you didn't say anything in response. Reks came in, then put that thing in your skin...then you became like a completely different person altogether.." she said with a straight face.

Another flash, the surgery, a far off voice This will keep him controlled He started and then sat back down without saying a word.

"Vance.." she said, having about enough of his strange behavior. Maigo walked over to him. "..has something been bothering you, lately?"

Rek's sighed as he heard them talk to each other.
"Good.." He walked back into the room with the child. "They are both fine now, Vance is alright now so no one is in danger"

"What, you expect me to spill out my life story like Reks does? Not a chance." He scoffed.

"I didn't ask you to 'spill out' your life story." she replied with a disgruntled sigh. "But if that's whats bothering you, then I won't force you to tell me." she shrugged then headed out of the room. "I'm gonna check on the kid. Just rest if you don't feel well." she said to him as she walked out then walked back into the room with the child and Reks.

The boy was lying in the bed in the room, though not asleep, as he apparently found it quite hard to fall asleep. He seemed to get somewhat accustomed to Reks' being here, and a smile grew on his face as she entered the room. As usual, she smiled back. Maigo walked over to the boy and knelt down so she didn't have to look down to see him.

"See, what did I tell ya? Everything's fine!" she told him reassuringly, although she wished she could really feel that way. "Vance is sitting in the other room, he's o..kay...too" she found herself forcing the words out, but the boy didn't notice. "If you want to go to bed, feel free to." she suggested, but the boy shook his head and hopped off of the bed, leaving the toy bunny on it. He again clung onto her dress, as he found it to already be a habit of his. "..guess you don't want to sleep, then..Hey." she said as she stood up. A thought came to her mind. "You know, you haven't said a word to Vance, Reks, or me today..you can speak cant'cha?" she said to the boy, once again kneeling down and putting a hand on the top
of his head. The boy nodded.


"Alright then...how about saying something?"
The boy just stared at her.
"You're shy?" she asked in disbelief. The boy didn't look like anyone who would be timid. The boy glanced at Reks, then back at her. "Ah, I see..." she leaned to his ear. "You're uncomfortable around Reks." she whispered while trying to hold in a laugh. The boy nodded, smiling. "Hey, I keep saying he's not going to hurt you." she said, standing back up and glancing at Reks. She shrugged.

"Baka..." He stood up and walked out of the room. He could here Maigo and Reks in the room that was now occupied by the boy. He walked in the other direction, ending up in what appeared to be a drawing room. The walls were occupied by many books, tomes, manuscripts, all sorts of literary pieces. He opened one of the tomes, coughing as the dust shot up out of the book and right into his face, and flipped through the pages. "Werewolves... vampires... half-breeds... nothing but a "big book of slaying" by the looks of this."

He shut the tome and put it back, pulling out another one and once again being greeted by a cloud of dust. He flipped through it, noticing that this one seemed to deal more with medicines and anatomy. "Not much in the way of light reading..." He flipped through, looking at anatomies of various creatures, some extinct others not, and replaced it back on the shelf.

I told Vance to rest.. she thought, once again sighing.

Maigo turned to Reks. "Haven't you noticed Vance has been acting kind of...awkward lately? Well, atleast ever since he fainted..."

Vance pulled out a tome that seemed different from every other literary piece in the room. He dusted it off and opened it. The title on the front page read as such: "The Virus: The Epidemic of our World." He flipped to the table of contents which listed How to treat bites to avoid transformations, cures for bitten people, advanced killing methods, and finally, and highlighted many times over, the cure for transformed. "What is this? There's no way it could be real..."

He sighed, and began to walk out of the room. "Yes I have noticed that, give him time Maigo. He just had some brutal things go through his mind, let him be." He then walked back into his parents room, setting down his hat and cloak on the hanger. His eyes wondered every where in the room until he walked to the bed and laid himself on it, trying to relax.

"Right.." she tried not to sigh again. Maigo motioned to the boy to get in bed. "C'mon, you look tired now. How about you get some sleep?" she suggested. The boy finally complied as he climbed into bed. She walked over to him and gently ran a finger through his hair. Maigo walked over to the door, gently closed it, then leaned against the wall once again crossing her arms.

"'Night"

She looked over at the source of the voice on saw the boy looking at her with a slight smile. She smiled back and chuckled softly. "Night."

I wonder what Vance is doing right now anyway...I feel somewhat uncomfortable, him leaving my eye in his state..

He sat down with the tome, flipping to the page indicated as The Cure. There was nothing other than those words on that page. He turned the page, which he found to be completely blank. He flipped through every page until he hit the next chapter, entitled Common Monsters, with all of The Cure pages blank. "What is this? Some kind of joke?!" He threw the tome to the floor, pacing the floor a few times before sitting in the arm chair again.

Maigo heard a "thump" a few rooms away, but not from the room Reks went in. Her eyes narrowed. Vance.. she clenched her teeth as she looked at the boy, who was fast asleep despite the "thump". I can..leave the room for a few minutes, he'll be fine. she thought as she quietly opened, then closed the door.

She walked down the hall looking through each room as she went until she found the room Vance was in. She had no intention of "stalking" him. Instead, Maigo just walked right on through, standing a few feet from Vance with her arms crossed as she looked at him sternly. She looked at the tome on the floor, then looked back at Vance.

Her glare spoke the words she wanted to say for her, "Well?".

"Whats the look for eh? If you've got a problem with me then just say something and I'll go." He stood up, picked up the tome, and placed it back in its proper place on the shelf.

She watched as Vance picked up the tome and put it back in it's proper place. Maigo walked over to the shelf and pulled out the book. She opened the book, reading the title: "The Virus: The Epidemic of our World", before flipping through the pages. A more shocked expression covered her face as she reached a mass of pages with absolutely nothing on them. She flipped back a few pages before reading some text: "The Cure".

The book was still on that page as she once again looked at Vance, but with a more easy expression on her face. She closed the book immediately after, then once again placed it back on the shelf.

"Just thought I'd check up..thought I heard a noise. It's hard not to be concerned." was all she said, in a flat voice, as she made her way out of the room.

Vance stood up and looked at the shelves again, then, seeing nothing else of interest, stood up and walked out of the room.

Again she made her way into the room where the child was, quietly opening and closing the door. Maigo walked in then resumed her position leaning against the wall with crossed arms. The Cure, eh? she thought.

The boy was once again sleeping on his stomach. Maigo closed her eyes but didn't fall asleep.

Vance walked past Maigo and went straight to the front door, opening the door and going out. "We can't survive on dust and cobwebs, even if food is so dangerous to acquire." He walked past the vampires who seemed to take little care in his being there.

Maigo refrained from moving an inch.

Go on, then.

Rek's just laid there, trying to ignore all voices out side of his own head. Memories just swirling through his head like a hurricane. After a minute he slowly got up and turned off the light for the room and laid back onto the bed, the darkness made me slightly dizzy but made him focus more on his memories.

Maigo opened one eye to check on the boy.

Still asleep, apparently.

Already I feel as though I'm taking care of my own child. she thought with a smile. Although..I'm going to have to leave here sooner or later...ah, let 'em get his rest first. she thought as she once again closed her eyes.

"Thanks." came a voice, muttering from the other end of the room.

She opened both eyes to look at the boy, but it seemed if he was awake, he had gone back to sleep almost instantly. She only smiled as she once again close her eyes to think of her own memories. Not the bad ones, but the good ones.

He sighed as he could not concentrate hard enough, he got up and let sett off his boots and belt to then take off his shirt. He grabbed the blanket and put it up and laid underneath, it had been a long time since he had slept in a bed. He closed his eyes and hoped sleep would follow.

A lot of things have changed, that's for sure.

No matter how much she tried to focus on the good, the bad would always follow up in the end. So much for "getting away". she thought as she stared blankly at the wall ahead of her. Maigo felt a tug at her waist. She quickly looked down to see the boy standing next to her, looking up at her with a concerned expression. She tried fixing her expression to a more reassuring one.


"How'd you get over here without me noticing?" she said softly, thinking Reks was asleep.
"I just don't feel like sleeping." he shrugged.
"Wel-..Hey."
"Huh?"
"I told you my name, don't you have your own?"
"Yeah."
"So..what is it?"
The boy only looked at the floor, his face looked extremely dejected. "..I don't know.."
Maigo looked at him with a mix of dejection and surprise on her face. "You...don't know." she echoed, kneeling down to him. "You don't know?" she repeated once again.
"It's been a long time since I've had anyone call me by my name. Or I just have bad memory." he said, looking at her blankly.
"Still, no one forgets their own name that easily."
"I dunno. Lots of stuff has happened."
"Eh..didn't your parents give you a name?"
"I never had any parents, not that I remember."

Silence.

"I see.." Maigo replied, the expression on her face once again turning downcast.
"But that's not what I came over 'ere for."
"Eh?"
"I got out of bed and saw you next to the wall looking like you saw a mur-"
"Habit! It means I'm relaxed."
.
.
.
"..Liar."

Maigo stood back up. "Anyway, I think Reks is asleep. If you really CAN'T go back to bed, you can go around the house I guess, but just be QUIET about it, please?"
"Meh." he replied while already making his way to the door, opening it but not bothering to close it. Maigo followed him out, closing the door behind her to make sure he didn't get into more trouble than he could handle.

Vance stepped in through the door, putting the canned-goods he found on a table near the door. He saw the boy walking off with Maigo behind him, and decided it would be best to stay out of their way. He walked into the kitchen with the cans and put them away in one of the cupboards.

Hm..Vance must be back. she thought, stopping in her tracks after hearing the noise of canned food being put on a table.


"Hey." she said to the boy, who was walking ahead of her. He stopped and turned to look at Maigo.
"Eh?"
"Vance is probably in the kitchen, why don't you say 'Hi'?"
"..."
"He DEFINITELY won't hurt you. And please..don't bite his hand again, alright? Get acquainted."
"I'll try." he replied somewhat in a tone as if he was joking.
"Right..you do that then."

The boy headed off towards the kitchen while Maigo was heading towards the room where Reks was. She put her ear to the door.

Silence...

Hm. Sound sleeper. she thought as she headed back to the room that was the child's.

Meanwhile, the boy entered the kitchen and looked at Vance with his red eyes, ready to defend himself apparently. "Yo."
